Food-oriented enterprise that attempts to solve a social or ecological problem

Jacques Pépin is a famous chef who has hosted many television shows. He is also writer, columnist and has participated on the Brave shows Top Chef series. Although he is most likely unknown by people of my age, he is extremely popular in the culinary arts business. There is a saying that goes “give a man a fish and you’ll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you’ll feed him for a lifetime,” but if you were to be taught by one of the best chefs in the world, then it is very likely that you will be able to achieve a culinary career that will feed people for years to come. The goal of Pépin who has taught for decades in the culinary arts program at Boston University is to help others by giving them a second chance at life through culinary arts. Since his arrival at Boston University the culinary arts program has grew drastically due to the hunger from individuals to learn from one of the worlds best. Although Pépin is very wealthy he also chooses to live a modest life and stays in the university’s residence like many other students. When he is not teaching, his free time is focused on attending or hosting various events which involve cooking classes and cocktail receptions, as well as aiding Boston based non-profit organizations. Many of these events provide employment training through the food service industry by offering hands on instruction to adults who are working to overcome barriers such as homelessness, substance abuse and former incarceration. From Pépin’s charity to the work he does at giving people opportunities through education and training, it is clear to see that he genuinely wants to help people in solving a social and ecological problem.
